Time - Hans Zimmer

As Hans Zimmer’s most popular song by number of listens on Spotify at 238 million, this won’t really be a controversial opinion but this is an indisputable work of genius. The song seemingly follows the arc of any human being’s life who didn’t die violently at least. Orderly beats sounding like someone trying out the various chords on a cello form the beginning of a life. What feels like a blend of meloncholy and inspiration forms the story of life. Taps of piano fade away at the end, as the end is characterized as more of “passing away” than something harsh like “dying”. What sounds like some sort of fade to black caps it, like information reaching some event horizon.

This experimental chill rap absolutely slaps. The song begins a long simple ambience (1m 30s) that paints the picture of a dream appearing from some blank meditative fog. The rap itself has an entire morning, midday, and evening arc that leaves spacious room for interpretation. On the other hand one bell rings clear: you and I may be faulty by design.
